Almost every operator in this corridor makes you phone for that number, and the ones who publish a figure usually publish the cheapest possible version of it. So here is the part nobody explains: what the price is actually made of, which pieces are fixed by somebody other than us, and what a real quote should already have accounted for before it reaches you.
Why does nobody publish a flat price for a Logan run?
Because a Logan run is not one product. A single traveler leaving Andover at ten in the morning in a sedan and a party of six leaving Haverhill at four in the morning with a ski bag each are two different jobs, and a published number can only ever be honest about one of them.
We quote per trip instead, in writing, before you book. That has one property a published rate card never has: the figure you are looking at is the figure you pay, because it was built for your trip rather than adjusted afterwards.
What does Logan itself charge a car service?
A per trip fee, set by Massport and published in its own commercial ground transportation agreement. Every operator working the airport pays it, on every trip, and it scales with the size of the vehicle.

The same agreement sets the terms an operator has to meet before it may work the airport at all, including a minimum liability insurance requirement and a monthly minimum billed on ten trips whether or not ten trips happen. Those are costs of being allowed to collect you at a terminal, and they sit inside every fare at every company that does it legally.

What do the tunnels into Boston cost?
The two tunnel tolls into Boston are the one line on a Logan run that is not ours, and they are published to the cent. MassDOT's own toll table shows them, and the number that matters is the commercial rate, because a livery vehicle is a commercial vehicle and pays it.

It is a small number and it is worth knowing anyway, because it is the clearest example of the difference between a fare and a guess. Anyone can look this table up. Very few quotes reflect it.

Is there sales tax on a limousine ride in Massachusetts?
No, and this one surprises people. Massachusetts regulation 830 CMR 64H.25.1 states that furnishing limousines driven by employees of the limousine business is a transportation service exempt from sales tax, because under the general law transportation services are not subject to Massachusetts sales and use tax.
So a line on a quote labelled sales tax is a line worth asking about. Gratuity, airport fees, tolls and waiting time are all legitimate. A state sales tax on the transportation itself is not one of them.

What moves the price the most?
Vehicle size, and it is not close. Everything else on this list adjusts a fare. Vehicle size decides which fare you are in.
- Vehicle size. A sedan, an SUV, a stretch, a Sprinter limo and a coach are different vehicles with different insurance minimums and different fuel, and a party of nine is not a sedan job however much anybody would like it to be.
- Distance from your door. Andover is about 25 miles down I-93 and Manchester, New Hampshire is about 55. That gap is real and it is the second biggest lever.
- Time of day. A four in the morning departure is a chauffeur getting up at two thirty, and overnight work costs more everywhere in this industry.
- Direction. An arrival is a different job from a departure, because somebody has to be standing at a stand at the moment you reach it, and Massport does not allow a commercial vehicle to sit in the cell phone lot waiting.
- Waiting and stops. A second pickup on the way, or an hour held at the kerb, is time the vehicle is not available to anybody else.
- Gratuity. Ask whether it is included in the figure you were quoted or added after. Both are normal. Finding out at the kerb is not.
Does a delayed flight change the price?
Not on our quotes. Flight tracking runs on every airport transfer in both directions, so a late inbound moves the pickup rather than the bill. That is a policy choice and it is worth asking any operator to state it plainly before you book, because the alternative is a waiting charge that starts the moment the aircraft was scheduled to land rather than the moment it actually did.

Is a car service worth it against a ride app?
That depends on what you are actually comparing, and the honest comparison is not the one either industry advertises. We wrote the whole thing out separately, including the fee the airport charges each of them, which runs in the opposite direction to what most people assume.

What should a written quote already include?
- The vehicle. Not the class, the vehicle. A quote for an SUV should name which SUV, because capacity and luggage space vary between them.
- Whether tolls and the airport fee are inside the number or added later.
- Whether gratuity is included.
- What happens if the flight is late, stated as a policy rather than a reassurance.
- What happens if you cancel, and by when.
- The pickup point at the airport, by terminal, so nobody is guessing at eleven at night.
A cheap quote and a real quote are not the same document. One of them tells you what the ride costs. The other one tells you what it costs after they have added the things they left out.
